Restaurant employees prevent the governor of Arkansas from finishing lunch
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant before she finished lunch
Employees at a restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas, asked Republican Sarah Huckabee Sanders and two people who accompanied her to lunch to leave the premises before they had finished eating.
Through a message posted on the social media platform X, formerly known as On Twitter, the 43-year-old governor shared her uncomfortable and unusual experience.
“Last week I was having lunch with two other mothers at a restaurant when the owner approached a member of the State Police Executive Protection Team and said that my presence made his employees feel threatened and told us to leave,” she wrote.
Far from being angered by the treatment she received, Sarah Huckabee considers the incident strange and inconsistent with the courtesy shown by the majority of citizens in the state she governs.
“Arkansans are known for their warm hospitality, and while that restaurant fell short of that standard, my administration will continue to focus on uplifting Arkansasns, not demeaning others with discrimination and hate,” she emphasized.
In a statement to television station THV11, the Croissanterie restaurant in Little Rock offered a different version of events.
“As Business owners and members of this community, we recognized that any action we took would have consequences. Allowing him to stay carried the risk of being perceived as a lack of support for the community that makes up the majority of our team, as well as their families and friends. On the other hand, asking him to leave could be interpreted as a refusal to provide service due to differing beliefs. Ultimately, we decided to support our employees and customers who expressed feeling uncomfortable,” the letter states. To process what happened,It should be noted that the governor of Arkansas has promoted legislation designed to combat illegal immigration, increasing penalties for undocumented immigrants who commit crimes in the state. She has also mandated collaboration between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to expedite the deportation of undocumented immigrants. She has also involved the National Guard in this mission to intensify immigration enforcement. Therefore, Sarah Huckabee Sanders' presence is not well-received in some public places and establishments in Arkansas, due to fears that she may be confronted by groups of people harmed by her policies.
