Roberto 'Hands of Stone' Duran said that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez looked bad when he was defeated by Terence Crawford because he didn't know what to do to counter the American's boxing.

In an interview with Izquierdazo, Duran believes that Canelo Alvarez still needs to learn several things that his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, hasn't taught him.

Basically, I saw him struggling. I saw him struggling because I thought Canelo was going to put more intelligence into his boxing, but it seems that when he was boxed, he didn't know what to do. So, he still has a long way to go, he said.

That's what he needs to do now, get together with bigger guys, so he can learn more about how to move in, how to move out, how to punch, and how to cut off the ring. This is what he lacked. Because, in my opinion, the trainer didn't teach him anything, he added.

In the first fight held in Las Vegas, Terence Crawford was superior to the Mexican thanks to his technique, speed, and boxing intelligence.

Although Canelo Alvarez landed some powerful punches, the American fighter managed to neutralize his offense and defeated him by unanimous decision. With this result, Crawford dethroned the fighter from Guadalajara at 168 pounds and made history by becoming an undisputed champion for the third time in a different weight class. After the fight, many believe that the fighter from Guadalajara should retire because he is past his prime. But now the Mexican has made it clear that he is very interested in a rematch with Bud. The former undisputed 168-pound champion underwent elbow surgery after suffering an injury against Crawford and plans to return to the ring in mid-2026 to prove that it was just an off night. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, lost his undisputed 168-pound championship to Crawford in a historic fight. The Mexican now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), three losses, and two draws in his professional career. Meanwhile, Terence Crawford, 37, became the undisputed champion of three different weight divisions by defeating the Mexican and made boxing history. The American fighter remains undefeated and now boasts 42 victories, 31 of them by knockout.
