The Porsche fans are starting to accept a news that seemed inevitable, but that hits hard. The Macan with a gasoline engine has its days numbered. The brand German confirmed that production of this SUV will end in the summer of 2026, thus closing a key stage for one of the most successful models in its recent history.

The decision marks a definitive turn towards electrification. Porsche wants to focus its resources on the electric Macan, a model that has been marketed since 2024 and that represents a good part of the company's future strategy.

In the meantime, the firm will try to manufacture as many units as possible with combustion engines before definitively shutting down the production line.

This was confirmed by Jochen Breckner, financial director of Porsche, during the presentation of results for the first quarter of 2026. The produced vehicles will continue to be sold until stock is exhausted in different markets.

United States will be priority for Porsche

There is a detail that explains a good part of the brand's strategy. The gasoline-powered Macan is still extremely popular in the United States, where it even led Porsche's sales during 2025.

In that market alone, the company delivered 27,139 units of the SUV, a figure that demonstrates the enormous commercial weight that the model with traditional turbo engines still has. e So, Porsche will prioritize shipping the last units to US dealers, especially after the reduction of tax incentives for electric vehicles.

The transition will not be immediate nor simple for many customers. Between 2026 and 2028, the only Macan available will be the electric one, since Porsche has not yet planned to launch a combustion replacement to fill that gap.
