Volkswagen launches a rival to the Tesla Model 3 for $15,000
Volkswagen presents an electric sedan with up to 588 km of autonomy and a huge trunk that points directly to the Tesla Model 3
Volkswagen does not want to lose any more ground in China and has just made it very clear with one of its most striking launches in recent times. The German brand presented a new electric sedan that mixes aggressive pricing, good autonomy and interior space that puts several much more expensive rivals in trouble.

The model is called ID.UNYX 07 and comes with a quite particular recipe. It has a sports sedan format, modern design and a gigantic 711-liter trunk, something unusual in a car in this segment. In addition, its entry price breaks any forecast within the current electricity market, since it starts at around $15,100 dollars at the exchange rate.

Volkswagen knows perfectly well that it needs to react quickly to the growth of Chinese manufacturers and the constant pressure from Tesla. That is why it decided to accelerate its product offensive and bet heavily on models developed specifically for the Asian market.
A development together with XPeng
The ID.UNYX 07 is not a conventional Volkswagen. The car was developed together with XPeng, one of the most powerful technological manufacturers in China. The collaboration between both companies already represents an investment of more than $655,000,000 dollars and is part of a much broader strategy to regain prominence in the electricity business.
This sedan uses a new electronic and electrical architecture called CEA, a platform that seeks to improve connectivity, efficiency and the speed of development of future vehicles.
Although initially these models were going to remain exclusively in China, within the Volkswagen Group they are already beginning to leave the door open for possible international export.
Lots of space and sportier design
At first glance, the ID.UNYX 07 opts for a much more dynamic image than other Volkswagen electric cars. It has a coupe-like silhouette, smooth lines and a body with a clearly sporty approach.
It measures 4.85 meters long and its wheelbase reaches 2.82 meters, dimensions that place it very close to models such as the Tesla Model 3. However, one of its strongest points appears in the rear.
The trunk offers 711 liters of capacity and can grow up to 1,580 liters with the seats folded, a huge figure for an electric sedan of this size.
It also incorporates 19-inch wheels, matrix LED lighting and visual details that seek to give it a more technological and premium image.
Up to 588 kilometers of autonomy
In the mechanical section, Volkswagen opted for a simple but efficient configuration. The ID.UNYX 07 uses a single electric motor with 228 horsepower and rear-wheel drive.
The battery is LFP type with 60 kWh capacity and allows up to 588 kilometers of autonomy to be certified under the Chinese CLTC cycle. The maximum speed is limited to 160 km/h.
The brand has already confirmed that a variant with a larger capacity battery will arrive later, although it has not yet revealed official figures.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen continues to rapidly expand its electric catalog in China. The ID.UNYX 07 joins other recent projects such as the ID.UNYX 06, ID.UNYX 08 and even models with extended autonomy, a technology that is increasingly gaining ground in the Asian market.
