A three-year-old boy died in Mexicali, Baja California, after staying for more than 12 hours inside a car, where he suffered heatstroke.
The child was found lifeless in the backseat of the vehicle. According to national media such as the newspaper La Jornada, the child had been forgotten idad after his mother, in a state, returned home during the early morning after attending a party and did not get him out of the car.
After waking up the next day, he would have realized the situation and, when he went to look for his son, he found him without any vital signs.
According to the investigations, the victim remained subject to his safety chair for several hours, with no possibility of getting out, while the temps temperatures inside the vehicle would have exceeded 45 degrees Celsius, conditions that caused his death due to hyperthermia or heat stroke.
The body was located at noon on Saturday 2 May. Experts from the Forensic Medical Service confirmed that it did not present traces of violence, but it did first-degree burns on extremities, product of prolonged exposure to heat.
After the facts, the mother of the minor was detained by authorities of Baja California and put at the disposal of the Public Ministry, under investigation for the crime of omission of care.
The case has generated social outrage and revived the call from authorities not to leave minors inside vehicles, since the temperature can raise quickly and cause death in a matter of minutes.
