Hanged-up 911 call leads to discovery of murdered woman in Michigan
Terrance Lamar Bowie, 29, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after admitting there was a body inside the apartment
A 911 call, placed and suddenly hung up, led police to the discovery of a woman's body inside an apartment over the weekend in the community of Shelby Township, Michigan.
The fact occurred on Saturday morning, July 19, at around 6:46 a.m., at a residential complex located in the 46000 block of Boardman, according to the local Police Department.
According to the official report, a man made a brief call to emergency services requesting help, but immediately hung up, which activated the welfare check protocol. Officers were dispatched to the address to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, officers were greeted by Terrance Lamar Bowie, 29, of Casco, Michigan. Bowie directly indicated that there was a body inside the apartment. When officers entered, they found a 27-year-old woman dead in one of the bedrooms. Her identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.
Evidence points to homicide
Authorities confirmed that the scene showed clear signs of homicide. "The evidence gathered at the scene indicates that this was a murder," police said in their statement.
The department also ruled out random acts of violence. According to preliminary information, the victim and suspect knew each other, suggesting a prior relationship between the two.
Terrance Lamar Bowie was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
On Tuesday, July 22, Bowie was arraigned in Shelby Township District Court where he was formally charged with second-degree murder and tampering with a crime scene.
Judge Stephen Sierawski set bail at $2 million, underscoring the seriousness of the crime.
Shelby Township Police Chief Robert J. Shelide issued a strong statement following the arrest,warning that the department will act decisively against violent crimes.
"Think twice before committing a crime in Shelby Township. Our team is committed to the safety of our residents and business owners. However, if you commit a violent crime in Shelby Township, we will do everything we can and will pursue you until you are brought to justice," he said.
Police continue to work to publicly identify the victim and clarify the motive behind the crime. Authorities have not released details about Bowie's relationship with the deceased woman, nor the type of injuries she sustained.
The cause of death will be determined by the county medical examiner in the coming days.
