A man posing as a pilot had 10 kilos of cocaine attached to his body at a Colombian airport
The man was wearing a commercial pilot uniform and tried to enter the restricted areas of the airport and thus evade security controls.
A Spanish citizen was captured at El Dorado International Airport, in Bogotá, when he tried to board a flight to Barcelona posing as a commercial airline pilot, while carrying 10 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride attached to his body.
The arrest was carried out by units of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police during security checks.
According to authorities, the man caught the attention of the uniformed officers due to his behavior and some inconsistencies in his presentation as an alleged member of the crew.
After an inspection using Body Scan equipment, the agents detected five rectangular packages and a belt attached to the suspect's body.
Inside, 10 kilograms of cocaine were found, for which he was captured flagrante delicto and placed at the disposal of the Attorney General's Office for the alleged crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.
According to the investigations, the detainee was identified as Carlos Barbería Hernando, of Spanish nationality.
The man was wearing a commercial pilot's uniform and tried to pass himself off as a crew member of an international airline to facilitate his entry into the restricted areas of the airport and evade security controls.
Subsequently known information indicates that Barbería Hernando had completed a pilot training course in Spain years ago, although he is not listed as a licensed pilot nor did he carry out that activity professionally.
The authorities indicated that the shipment was destined for the city of Barcelona and are now investigating whether this method of concealment and impersonation is part of a criminal network dedicated to shipping narcotics to Europe. They also seek to establish whether the captured person had previously participated in similar operations.
