Authorities search for missing Hispanic teen in Texas and warn she is in “imminent danger”
Camila Mendoza Olmos, 19, was last seen on Christmas Eve morning leaving her home in Bexar County
Authorities in Bexar County, Texas, are intensifying the search for Camila Mendoza Olmos, a 19-year-old who has been missing since Christmas Eve and whose whereabouts are considered to be in “imminent danger,” police officials confirmed Sunday.
The The young woman was last seen around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday when she left her residence in the 11000 block of Caspian Spring, in northwest Bexar County. Security camera footage captured her checking her vehicle before leaving the area. She left on foot, leaving behind personal belongings. According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, investigators believe Mendoza Olmos left the residence on foot, as her car remained parked on the property. Authorities indicated that the young woman only had her car keys and possibly her driver's license with her. Sheriff Javier Salazar told ABC News that police and volunteer teams have maintained 24-hour search operations, with support from several federal agencies. The FBI and DHS join the investigation. The FBI is providing technical assistance in the case, while the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is monitoring border crossings and international movements, given the possibility that the disappearance extends beyond U.S. territory. “We definitely don't want to overlook anything,” Salazar stated. “The ground search is limited to a couple of square miles, but we don't rule out the possibility that this case could go beyond the country's borders.” No hypothesis is ruled out. Authorities indicated that all lines of investigation remain open, including kidnapping, human trafficking, or the possibility that the young woman left of her own accord. Although Mendoza Olmos recently went through a romantic breakup, the police assured that it was mutual and that there is no evidence of a related violent situation.Salazar also clarified that the young woman has not been detained by ICE, despite rumors circulating on social media, and confirmed that she is a U.S. citizen. Unusual Behavior: One of the elements that most concerns investigators is that Mendoza Olmos left her cell phone at home, something they described as unusual given her active lifestyle. “It’s very uncommon for her not to return and not to have her phone with her. That’s why we’re working practically nonstop on this case,” the sheriff stated. Appeal to the Community: The young woman was last seen wearing a baby blue and black hoodie, light blue pajama pants, and white shoes. Authorities asked neighbors to review security camera footage and report any relevant information. Anyone with information about her whereabouts can contact the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at (210) 335-6000 or email the Missing Persons Unit at missingpersons@bexar.org.
