Man admitted to killing his pregnant girlfriend with a bat in New Jersey
A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, whom he admitted hitting with a baseball bat.
A New Jersey man admitted in court to having murdered his pregnant partner inside the home they shared in Pleasantville. The defendant, Boris Lainez-Rosales, 28, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Leslianette Quintana-Betancourt.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, the man admitted to attacking his partner with a baseball bat on December 2, 2024.
Prosecutors indicated that he later tried to make authorities believe that the victim had died after falling down a staircase inside the home.
A witness cited in the investigation claimed to have heard a loud argument between the couple for several hours before the crime.
The victim was pregnant and the baby did not survive either.
When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found Leslianette Quintana-Betancourt's body at the foot of a 12-step staircase.
The woman had multiple blunt injuries to her face, arms and abdomen, as well as a placental abruption.
The unborn baby also did not survive, according to court documents.
Investigators indicated that they found no blood stains around the stairs and assured that the body gave off the smell of chlorine.
Police reported that the accused had injuries to his hands when he was questioned and initially claimed that the woman had suffered an accidental fall.
However, during the search of the home, detectives found blood stains in the basement and evidence of cleaning biological remains.
They also located a baseball bat with traces of blood in the backyard and a bag inside the defendant's car with apparent remains of hair.
The accused will face a sentence of 30 years
The plea agreement includes a sentencing recommendation of 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
Boris Lainez-Rosales will be sentenced on July 31.
Friends and family remembered Leslianette Quintana-Betancourt as a kind young woman excited to become a mother.
