Man charged with murder after arrow attack and fire in New Jersey
Authorities have charged a Kearny resident with the murder of a 45-year-old man during an attack with an unusual weapon
A New Jersey man is facing murder charges after allegedly attacking another man with an arrow, who later died from his injuries. The incident occurred over the weekend in Kearny, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
The victim was identified as Pablo Criollo, 45, of Harrison. According to Acting District Attorney Wayne Mello, police responded Saturday night to a report of an injured person and found Criollo with an arrow embedded in his body. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.
Suspect barricaded himself inside and started fires
Authorities identified Oscar Feijoo, 44, a Kearny resident, as the suspect. When a SWAT team responded to his home, he barricaded himself inside and allegedly started several fires early Sunday morning.
According to the district attorney's office, the suspect remained inside the house for several hours, even after firefighters extinguished the flames.
Arrest after standoff
Feijoo finally emerged from the residence Sunday, shortly before 1:00 pm, armed with knives. After a brief confrontation, he was arrested by security forces.
The accused faces charges of murder, aggravated arson, and illegal possession of a firearm. The prosecution indicated that additional charges could be filed. It has not yet been reported whether he has legal representation.
Reaction of the victim's family
Criollo's wife told WABC that her husband was returning from work when he was attacked from behind.
“My husband was a good man, a great man. I am devastated, not only for myself, but also for my daughter,” she said.
