Trump claimed that US forces bombed Iranian missile and drone storage facilities
US President Donald Trump again accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement and warned that Washington could intensify its military offensive if Tehran continues its attacks, to the point that the Islamic Republic "will cease to exist."
In a message published on Truth Social, Trump claimed that US forces bombed missile and drone storage facilities, as well as Iranian coastal radars, in response to a new violation of the cessation of hostilities.
“There may come a time when we can no longer remain reasonable and we will be forced to militarily complete the work we began with great success,” the president wrote. “If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will cease to exist!” he added.
Hours earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported a new series of attacks against multiple military targets in Iran in response to a drone attack attributed to Tehran against the Panamanian-flagged oil tanker M/T Kiku while it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
“CENTCOM forces launched attacks today in direct response to continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping,” the military command said in a statement.
According to CENTCOM, the offensive was directed against military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense positions, drone storage facilities and naval mine deployment capabilities.
The US command also assured that, after the bombings on Friday in response to a previous attack against the M/V Ever Lovely, Iran had “the opportunity to respect the ceasefire agreement,” but chose not to do so by launching a new drone against the M/T Kiku.
This second US attack occurred after Iran accused Washington of violating the memorandum of understanding signed between both countries and justified its subsequent response against US targets as an act of "legitimate defense."
On Friday, Trump had already accused Iran of committing a “senseless” violation of the ceasefire by launching “at least four one-way attack drones against ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”
The attacks are the first exchanged by both sides since the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 to end hostilities and guarantee free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while negotiating a definitive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. EFE
