Wisconsin couple found dead in their car before their first anniversary: ??possible homicide-suicide investigated
Rachel and Brandon Dumovich, a couple who had known each other since they were teenagers, were found dead inside a vehicle in Illinois
A Wisconsin couple was found dead inside a car in Harvard, Illinois, just days before celebrating their first wedding anniversary, local authorities reported.
The discovery occurred on October 6, when an officer noticed a parked car with its lights flashing lit. Upon approaching, he found the bodies of Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, both residents of Sharon, Wisconsin, inside, according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office report.
Both had gunshot wounds.
According to the Harvard Police Department statement, the victims had gunshot wounds and a firearm was found inside the vehicle. Although authorities have not yet confirmed whether it was a homicide-suicide, they indicated that the McHenry County Major Case Investigative Assistance Team took over the case.
Authorities initially asked neighbors to remain indoors while the situation was assessed, but later confirmed there was no threat to the community.
Rachel and Brandon had known each other since high school. On a wedding page posted on The Knot, they described each other as “teenage sweethearts” and said their love story began when Rachel, at age 12, stole some of Brandon's cologne from his locker to get his attention.
The pair remained friends for over 15 years until they began dating in 2022. Brandon proposed to her in the summer of 2023, and they married on October 12, 2024, next to Big Cedar Lake in Slinger, Wisconsin.
Hours before her death, Rachel posted a photo on Facebook with the message: “Forever chasing sunsets. Wishing we were back in Greece,” apparently referring to their honeymoon.
Police asked anyone with information about the case to contact the Harvard Police Department at (815) 943-4431 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (815) 943-4343 or by email at crimestoppers@cityofharvard.org.
