In a historic event for urban music, the Puerto Rican Academy of the Spanish Language issued a resolution to recognize the work of Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, known worldwide as Bad Bunny, in the global spread of the Spanish language.

According to EFE, the institution emphasized that the artist is currently the popular music performer with the greatest international reach, enabling Spanish to achieve a notable presence in remote corners of the planet.

According to a statement from the Puerto Rican Academy of the Spanish Language, Bad Bunny's cultural project has been fundamental in overcoming prejudices against popular, urban, and youth slang, integrating Puerto Rican Spanish as an essential element of his artistic identity.

“Despite the marked localism of the references used in his compositions, his message has managed to transcend borders,” the Academy noted.

A year of historic successes

This recognition comes at a peak moment for “Bad Bunny.” Recently, his album DeBI Tirar Mas Fotos made history by winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, the first time a production entirely in Spanish has received this award.

Furthermore, his cultural impact was solidified after his performance at the Super Bowl LX halftime show, which reached 128.2 million viewers. During the show, the singer championed Latin identity by displaying flags from across the region, emphasizing that “America is the entire continent.” Currently, Bad Bunny is in the middle of his world tour, which will continue through Argentina and Brazil before heading to Europe and Oceania. With this endorsement from the Academy, the artist not only reaffirms his status as a sales phenomenon, but also as a pillar in the evolution and relevance of the Spanish language in the 21st century.
