Bella Hadid reveals her struggle with medical anxiety due to her Lyme disease
Model Bella Hadid used her social media to talk about the anxiety she faces amid her Lyme disease diagnosis
Supermodel Bella Hadid once again used her social media to highlight the harsh reality of living with a chronic illness, sharing intimate and moving details of her battle with Lyme disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2013.
Through her Instagram Stories, Hadid, 28, shared a quote that deeply resonated with her followers: “When your chronic illness is chronic and someone says 'you always have something,' like… yeah… you could say the illness is… chronic.” This post, originally from the profile @chronicillnesshumor, reflects the frustration with the lack of understanding that often surrounds permanent health conditions.
The Orebella fragrance creator didn't stop there. She shared a post by influencer Alexandra Wildeson titled “The duality of life with a chronic illness,” adding, “Medical anxiety is so real!” With this gesture, Hadid highlighted the constant stress and fear that comes with dealing with the medical system and treatments. Her family's support: Bella's fight is not just one. Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, who also suffers from the disease, commented on the post: “?? Lyme disease warrior.” But the support went beyond words. Yolanda dedicated a series of posts on her own profile to her daughter, showing photos where she hugs her in the hospital bed or where Bella appears wrapped in wet towels and connected to an oxygen machine.
“As you can imagine, watching my Bella struggle in silence opened the deepest heart of despair within me,” Yolanda confessed.
“The invisible disability of chronic neurological Lyme disease is difficult for anyone to explain or understand. But my own pain doesn't compare to seeing my baby suffer.”
Yolanda praised her daughter's “courage,” highlighting that Bella has “learned to exist within the prison of [her] own paralyzed brain.” She concluded her emotional message by stating that her daughter is a “survivor” who, Despite “countless setbacks,” she continues “fighting for better days.”
Recently, during the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last month,Viewers could glimpse her struggle when the model wore imposing 50-pound wings—a monumental physical effort for someone dealing with the debilitating symptoms of a chronic condition.
