Docuseries about the controversial Michael Jackson trial will arrive on Netflix in June
The platform will bring to the screens one of the most controversial episodes of the "King of Pop": the accusations of child sexual abuse presented in 2003
Netflix announced the upcoming premiere of a documentary series focused on the controversial trial that Michael Jackson faced in 2005. It is “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” a production that will bring one of the most high-profile episodes in the artist's life to the small screen.
According to the entertainment giant, the audiovisual piece will address the accusations of child sexual abuse presented against the 'King of Pop' in 2003, as well as the controversy that surrounded him in subsequent years. This will be possible through unpublished material that includes testimonies from jurors, lawyers and journalists who closely followed the case.
The series, which is directed by filmmakers Nick Green and Fiona Stortoun, aims to offer a different look than the coverage of that time.
"20 years have passed since Michael Jackson's trial, in which he was found innocent. However, to this day, the controversy remains," the producers stated in a recent statement.
“Michael Jackson: The Verdict” will be available on Netflix's digital catalog starting June 3 and will have three episodes of approximately 50 minutes. They collect interviews with media figures who covered the judicial process in 2003.
The news of this release comes just over a month after the artist's name conquered the box office with his biographical film titled “Michael.” To date, the film directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson leads the global box office after grossing $26 million in the United States during its fourth week in theaters and $83.8 million internationally.
However, this success is not only limited to the 2026 season, since according to data from Box Office Mojo, “Michael” ranks as the second highest-grossing film biography in history, surpassing “Elvis.”
For its part, the first place in the ranking is maintained by “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a film that portrays the life of Freddie Mercury and his rise to the top of success with the band Queen. Upon its release in 2018, its domestic and global box office earnings were recorded at $217,000,000 and $911,000,000, respectively.
