Harry Styles reveals how a haircut led him to a historic moment at the Vatican
During the election of Pope Leo XIV in Rome, a photograph of Harry Styles at the scene went viral on social media
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, global pop star Harry Styles revealed the curious and spontaneous reason why he was present during one of the most significant moments for the Catholic Church: the election of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican in May 2015.
As he recounted Styles said it all started casually while he was getting a haircut at a barbershop in Rome. Suddenly, I heard a crowd shouting “Habemus Papam!” and saw people running through the streets. The excitement was so contagious that even his barber stopped cutting, sang the Latin phrase—which announces “we have a Pope”—and finished his work. “I thought, 'Oh, I'm about a five-minute walk from there,'” the singer recounted. “So I walked over. It was crazy.” Styles joked about the unusual experience of witnessing an event that garnered more public attention than he did himself, wondering, “Who is this guy getting all this attention?” Regarding his musical production, the artist also took the opportunity to talk about his upcoming musical project. He announced his fourth solo album, *Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally*, from which the first single, “Aperture,” has already been released. Styles described the project as “classic pop,” influenced by his recent period of nights out and discovery of new sounds. Among his influences, he mentioned LCD Soundsystem, whom he saw at a festival in Madrid and later in Brixton, as well as Durutti Column. Regarding 'Aperture,' I explained that having fun in the creative process was key. As for the album's enigmatic title, the singer offered a characteristic analogy: “You can take a break from kissing if you want […] but I think the idea is that you take a break from kissing to go disco.” With a world tour titled 'Together, Together' on the horizon, Harry Styles continues to fuse, in his unique style, unusual anecdotes—such as witnessing a papal conclave—with a musical evolution that promises to keep him at the top of the international pop scene.
