The queen is back. Kylie Jenner, the business mogul and reality TV star, resurrected her iconic "King Kylie" era with an unexpected return to music. The 28-year-old businesswoman appears as a featured artist on rapper Yeats' new single, "Let King Tonka Talk," marking her first foray into rap in ten years. Her brief but impactful appearance occurs at 0:55 in the song, where Jenner bursts in with a line that has sparked a reaction from her fans: "Let Queen Kylie talk. I just walked into this club and all these bitches, yeah, are grabbing me." She then whispers a powerful "They never could," thus concluding a mere ten seconds of appearance that has already generated considerable buzz. In the song's credits, released by Lyfestyle Corporation/Excursion/Capitol Records, Jenner is credited as one of the five songwriters, and is also referred to as “King Kylie” in the title.
The return of an era?
The nickname “King Kylie” refers to a golden period in the celebrity's life, between 2014 and 2016. During those years, Jenner established herself as an icon of teenage self-expression, standing out for rebellious looks like the famous teal hair dye she sported just before her sister Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kanye West.
It was during this same period that she launched her first “Kylie Lip Kit,” a product that sold out in a matter of hours and laid the foundation for her multi-million dollar empire, Kylie Cosmetics, founded in 2015. Last October, to celebrate a decade of success, Jenner relaunched the “King Kylie Collection,” a line which pays homage to the aesthetics of that era through its packaging.
Jenner's return to the studio comes as her partner, actor Timothee Chalamet, has also seen his musical past resurface. Known for his alter ego “Lil' Timmy Tim,” Chalamet wrote the song “Statistics” in 2013 as a school project while a student at LaGuardia High School. The track, which mentions his teacher, Miss Lawton,It earned her a failing grade of D+.
