Colombian singer Juan Luis Londono Arias, known as Maluma, took a significant turn in his career by announcing the launch of his new project: a podcast focused on mental health.
Under the name "Las cosas como son" (Things as They Are), the Colombian artist presented this initiative on his social media as his "Christmas gift" to his fans, promising to open a space for dialogue honest about the internal struggles that often remain silent.
The project stems from a profound personal experience. The singer of “Bronceador” and “Junio” confessed to having gone through a “very complex” year emotionally and psychologically, describing an “emotional rollercoaster” that made it difficult for him to see the light. Maluma admitted that, before experiencing it firsthand, he used to trivialize mental health problems, responding with cliches like “just keep busy, exercise.” “Until it happened to me and I knew it was real, and I knew it was something delicate that had to be taken with absolute seriousness,” the artist confessed. This experience led him to begin a healing journey that included therapy and the support of experts, a process he now seeks to replicate for his audience. “Las cosas como son” (Things as They Are) has the explicit mission of breaking the taboos surrounding mental health, particularly in the realm of masculinity. “Talking about anxiety and depression still feels taboo, and I want to break those taboos. I want people to open up and be able to heal through therapy or whatever paths they choose,” Maluma stated. The podcast, whose first season will premiere this December, aims to provide tools and experiences to help those going through similar situations. The announcement generated a wave of support on social media, notably from his colleague J Balvin, one of the leading advocates for mental health in urban music, who celebrated the news with an enthusiastic: “Legooooo, how awesome!”
