In fact, as the monsoon season is approaching, Delhi Traffic Police has prepared a comprehensive strategy to deal with old problems like waterlogging and traffic jams in the city. Senior officer informed that the objective of this plan is to cause minimum inconvenience to the public during heavy rains and the traffic continues to run smoothly. The traffic police has strengthened monsoon preparations in collaboration with several civic agencies including Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Coordination with IMD
The traffic police is also coordinating with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) so that information about bad weather can be received in time and prompt action can be taken. The officer said, 'We are identifying flood-prone areas and additional staff and resources will be deployed there so that immediate response can be given to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Along with this, the work of cleaning drains and repairing broken roads has also been expedited with local agencies.'
The traffic department has identified the major parts of the city which face waterlogging and congestion every year during the rains.Special teams will be deployed at these places which will control the traffic during rush hours and help the people. Apart from this, digital tools like real-time traffic monitoring, GPS-enabled patrolling and timely updates through social media have also been included. With this, if there is a jam somewhere, people can be advised to change the route on time.
The officer said that the cooperation of the public is very important. We appeal to the people to inform us about problems like waterlogging or road breakage through our helpline or online means. Under this monsoon action plan, work is also being done to maintain the clarity of road signs, improve the arrangement of towing services in case of vehicle breakdown and coordination with emergency services in case of sudden floods or road accidents. The traffic police said that the weather conditions are being constantly monitored and staff will be deployed accordingly, so that road safety and convenience of the people can be ensured during the rainy season.
