Intelligence agencies keep an eye on international drug trafficking
Indian intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the activities of Pakistan-based international drug smuggling syndicate 'Haji Sali' drug syndicate. The news agency ANI report quoted sources as saying that intelligence agencies had received inputs from the Pakistani network on an Iranian vessel operating in the Indian Ocean region in September 2022. Based on which the Indian Navy intercepted an Iranian vessel about 500 nautical miles southwest of Maldivian capital Male on 29 September and recovered 200 kg of high-quality heroin. During this, 6 Iranian crew members were also arrested.
Pakistani Drug Syndicate Revealed
The seizure came after tracking of the Iranian vessel and timely sharing of intelligence with the Indian Navy. This recent seizure is yet another example of increase in cross-border drug smuggling by Pakistani drug syndicate. On 8 October also, the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Indian Coast Guard seized heroin worth Rs 350 crore from a Pakistani boat off the coast of Gujarat. It was learned that Mohammad Kader, a big drug smuggler living in Pakistan, had sent this consignment. This transaction was to take place in the sea itself. Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia gave the above information. In 2022, according to sources in the security establishment, a total of 1335 kg of heroin has been seized in joint operations by Indian and Sri Lankan authorities during anti-narcotic operations on the seas.
