As the paddy sowing season is passing, the farmers are facing disappointment due to lack of rain. 30 districts of the state have received less than 20 per cent of the normal rainfall. The condition of five districts is even worse. There has been less rain up to 64 percent. According to the data of the Agriculture Department till July 6, planting has not yet started in Jamui, Kaimur and Rohtas districts. In comparison to North Bihar, drought conditions are seen in South Bihar.
The maximum planting of about 56 percent is in West Champaran
The pace of paddy planting is very slow in 13 districts of the state. The maximum planting of about 56 percent has been done in West Champaran. At present, the average planting of paddy in the state is about 15 to 20 percent. In such a situation, due to less rain, preparations have been intensified to find alternative ways to irrigate crops. After the review and instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Department of Water Resources, Disaster Management and Agriculture has become active.
Lightning alert in some places
Monsoon has remained almost completely inactive in the state. Like Friday, there has been no rain in Bihar on Saturday as well. Here, on Sunday, a lightning alert has been issued in some places of North-West Bihar. The state has so far received only 192 mm of rain, 28 percent less than normal.
The speed of planting is very slow in these 13 districts
According to the Agriculture Department, the pace of paddy planting is very slow in Arwal, Aurangabad, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Gaya, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Munger, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura and Sitamarhi.
Less than 20 percent rain in 30 districts
In the review conducted on Saturday, the officials had said that except Araria, Begusarai, Buxar, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Madhubani, Purnia and Supaul, in the period from June 1 to July 8, all the 30 districts have received less than 20 percent less than normal rainfall. . At the same time, Agriculture Department Secretary N Sarvan Kumar has informed that till now 15 to 20% of the planting work has been done in the state.
Good rain in only eight districts
According to sources, during this monsoon in the state from June 1 to July 8, so far only eight districts have received good rains. These include Araria, Begusarai, Buxar, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Madhubani, Purnia and Supaul districts. Out of these districts, except Begusarai and Buxar, the planting of paddy has gained momentum in six other districts.
40 percent or less rain in 26 districts
Banka (-45%), Bhabua (-42%), Bhagalpur (-52%), Bhojpur (-48%), Gopalganj (-48%), Jehanabad (-43%), Katihar (-52%), Lakhisarai (-56%), Nalanda (-48%), Nawada (-52%), Rohtas (-50%), Samastipur (-40%), Saran (-58%), Siwan (-46%) and Vaishali (- -40%) .
Electricity will be available for eight hours for irrigation
Keeping in mind the drought situation, the Energy Department has decided to provide electricity to the farmers for irrigation on priority basis. Under this, electricity will be provided to the farmers for at least eight hours of irrigation. Companies have given instructions in this regard. According to the officials, arrangements have been made to supply electricity to the farmers, agriculture feeders. Where there are no agricultural feeders, there will be supply from normal feeders also.
Irrigation is also being done from canals
The Water Resources Department has started efforts to make arrangements for irrigation through canals in other districts including Jamui, Kaimur and Rohtas. Instructions have been given to continue water supply in canals. Along with this, in the event of damage to other Kharif crops including paddy, the Agriculture Department has made preparations to promote among the farmers to grow alternative crops.
