The body of a prisoner was found hanging in the bathroom of the jail in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district jail on Sunday. The 46-year-old accused, Rajesh, was arrested for murdering his live-in partner. Rajesh, a resident of Pathanamthitta, was arrested on December 15 for allegedly killing his live-in-partner Sindhu (47), a senior police officer said.
A senior police officer further said that the officials found his body hanging in the bathroom of the jail here. According to the police, during the trial, the court sent him on police remand and lodged him in the Thiruvananthapuram District Jail at Poojapura here. Further investigation is going on there.
Police said that the accused Rajesh had attacked his girlfriend Sindhu with a sharp weapon in broad daylight. Sindhu was standing near a shop at the time of the attack and was killed by Rajesh at the same time. Although the police took the woman to the Government Medical College Hospital after suffering serious injuries on her neck, head and hands, she could not be saved.
