The Manipur government may call a special session of the assembly next month. According to the information, the government told that a special session of the assembly will be called in the second or third week of August. Actually, incidents of violence are happening continuously in Manipur. Regarding this, many sections are demanding to call a special session of the assembly to discuss the current situation of the state.
Government spokesperson and Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Rajan told that efforts are being made to call a special session of the Vidhan Sabha. He also denied reports that the state government did not care about the treatment of BJP MLA Vungjagin Valte. He was wounded in an attack in the early days of the ethnic conflict that broke out in May.
Viral video case investigation handed over to CBI
The investigation of the case which has brought shame to the country with the cruelty of two women has been handed over to the CBI. The Central Government gave this information in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Along with this, the Central Government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court and requested to shift the trial of the case out of Manipur. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had informed about handing over the Manipur viral video investigation to the CBI.
Violence continued for almost three months
Ethnic violence started in Manipur on May 3. The violence, triggered by Manipur's Meitei community's demand for tribal reservation, has so far claimed over 160 lives and displaced thousands. A day before the monsoon session of Parliament began, a video from Manipur went viral on social media, in which two women were seen being paraded naked by a mob of people. Women were also gang-raped. Anger was seen in the whole country regarding this incident. The opposition is also besieging the government on this issue.
