Poor Air: Delhi-NCR's air may reach very poor category from today, falling mercury will disturb
Air standards agencies forecast that mixing height, ventilation index and reduced wind speed will help pollutants settle.
Due to the change in weather conditions, the air of Delhi-NCR may reach the very poor category on Friday. Air standards agencies forecast that mixing height, ventilation index and reduced wind speed will help pollutants settle. Falling mercury will also be a significant factor in increasing pollution. In the last 24 hours, the air quality of Delhi has been poor and the air quality of NCR cities has been recorded in the average category.
According to the Centre's air standards body Safar India, due to stubble burning in North India in the last 24 hours, the share of stubble smoke in the pollution of Delhi-NCR was only two percent. In such a situation, the level of pollution did not increase. According to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, incidents of stubble burning have been recorded at 66 places in Punjab.
Whereas, stubble has been burnt at 32 places in Haryana, 195 in Uttar Pradesh, 299 in Madhya Pradesh and 14 in Rajasthan. Along with this, after several days, the incident of stubble burning has also been recorded at one place in Delhi. Particles smaller than PM 2.5 accounted for 51 percent of PM 10. PM 10 level was recorded at 152 and PM 2.5 level at 81 micrograms per cubic meter.
Mixing height and ventilation index will decrease from today
According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), the wind direction was west and north-west with a speed of 12 to 16 kmph during the last 24 hours. Along with this, the mixing height was 1000 meters and the ventilation index was 5500 square meters per second. The department predicts that from Friday the wind speed may decrease along with the mixing height and ventilation index. In the next 24 hours, the mixing height can be 970 meters and the ventilation index can be 1700 square meters per second and the wind speed can be six to 15 kilometers per hour.
According to the department, the mixing height is likely to be one thousand meters and the ventilation index is likely to be five thousand square meters per second on Sunday. At the same time, the wind speed can remain up to six kilometers per hour. When the ventilation index is less than 6,000 square meters per second and the wind speed is less than 10 kilometers per hour, it helps in settling of pollutants.
