The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against Assistant Commissioner, CGST, Gandhidham Mahesh Chowdhary and his wife on allegations of disproportionate assets. It is alleged that Mahesh Chowdhary had amassed disproportionate assets in the form of huge amount of cash, bank balance, movable and immovable properties in the name of himself and his family members during the CGST check period 2017 to 2021, amounting to about 3 Crore 71 lakh 12 thousand 499 (approximately 74% DA).

Searches at places of accused Mahesh Chowdhary in Rajasthan Searches are being conducted at various places of the accused in Gujarat and Rajasthan since Wednesday. About 42 lakh rupees, foreign currencies, jewellery, precious watches and property related documents have been found. The cash that has been recovered has many bundles of 2000, 500, 200 and 100 notes. According to sources, both Mahesh Chowdhary and his wife are residents of Rajasthan, while he is currently posted as Assistant Commissioner, CGST, Gandhidham in Gujarat. Searches have also been conducted at his native residence in Rajasthan and at his in-laws' house.
