The rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, who are supporting Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, have returned to Mumbai from Goa on Saturday evening. According to the information, these MLAs will be taken to the assembly by buses. A heavy security cordon has been made for this. Sources said that the rebel MLAs who reached Mumbai have been accommodated in a hotel and they will take part in a special session on Sunday. Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar claimed that he can continue to perform his duty as ex-officio speaker even after the no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Narhari Jirwal is pending. The post of Speaker of the Assembly is vacant since last year.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar told reporters in Pune that a long legal battle would be fought to decide which faction of the Shiv Sena would be the party's "real" contender. Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena MLA and close aide of party chief Uddhav Thackeray, Rajan Salvi, on Saturday filed his nomination for the post of Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as the candidate of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rahul Narvekar, who became an MLA for the first time, filed his nomination for the post on Friday. The majority test of the new government will be held in the House on July 4.

Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress are part of the MVA alliance in the state. The government of these three parties fell on Wednesday due to Shinde's rebellion. The very next day, Shinde was sworn in as the Chief Minister. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has become the Deputy Chief Minister. A group of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs and independent MLAs led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde left for Mumbai from Goa in a special aircraft on Saturday evening. The MLA, who had been camping at a hotel in Dona Paula since June 29, boarded two buses led by Shinde and left for Dabolim airport. Amidst the political crisis in Maharashtra, the rebel MLAs had reached Goa from Guwahati with Shinde on June 29.
