Man be whole of that won $1 million in the lottery by rumors at work: this is how he found out about his new fortune
In any community, rumors travel faster than the wind. A casual comment or unconfirmed assumption can become a topic of conversation at work and at home. A rumor is gossip until confirmed; at that point, it becomes information. Sometimes those rumors turn out to be true. And for one man, it was the catalyst for him to discover he had won $1 million.
The man, who remained anonymous, heard at work that someone in his hometown of Justice had won $1 million in the lottery. He didn't pay much attention until he remembered he had bought a ticket there the day before.
According to his account with Illinois Lottery officials, the person decided to play after learning the size of the jackpot.
"I play the lottery occasionally, when I have some extra money," he explained.
The drawing was on July 10, and the jackpot was around $12 million. After filling up with gas, he spent $10 on Lotto tickets with the Extra Shot add-on, unaware that the small boost would make a huge difference in his life.
The purchase was made at a Citgo station on West 79th Street in Justice. However, he didn't check the winning numbers right away. It wasn't until the next day, right in the middle of the workday, that the rumor piqued his curiosity. He used the lottery's official app to scan his ticket.
“I thought I won $1,000,” he said. “Then I scanned it again and more zeros appeared. I had to double-check and scanned like 20 more times before I got the zero. I was in shock.”
Once his prize was confirmed, the lucky winner calmly began to evaluate his next steps.
“My friends work in the financial sector, so I hope they'll help me invest wisely,” he said.
Although there is one priority expense he is clear about: part of the money will be allocated to his wedding and honeymoon in 2026.
Although the winner's identity was not revealed by the Illinois Lottery,His story is already circulating among neighbors and local media, not as a rumor, but as the protagonist of a curious lottery story.
