Trump claims that Iran has not informed the US of the suspension of negotiations
Iranian state media assured that peace negotiations with the United States were paralyzed after Israel's attacks against Lebanon
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed this Monday that Iran has not informed Washington of a possible suspension of dialogue between the two countries, after Iranian state media announced the suspension of talks as a result of the Israeli attacks against Lebanon.
Asked about these reports about the interruption of the negotiations, mediated by Pakistan, Trump told NBC News: "We have not been informed of that."
In a brief telephone interview with the US network, the president stressed that this does not imply the breaking of the fragile truce in the conflict in which the US and Israel participate, threatened by new rounds of US and Iranian attacks.
“That does not mean that we are going to go and start throwing bombs everywhere,” warned Trump, who announced that they will maintain the naval blockade off the Iranian coast with which they seek to pressure Tehran, which, in retaliation, keeps traffic in the strategic Strait of Hormuz interrupted.
In another interview with the CNBC network, the president downplayed an eventual end to the negotiations: "I really don't care. It doesn't matter to me," he said.
Iran's negotiating team announced this Monday that it was suspending "talks and the exchange of messages (with the United States) through a mediator given that the Zionist regime continues to commit crimes in Lebanon," according to the Tasnim agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Tehran insists that the ceasefire in force with Washington since April 8 includes Lebanon, a country under heavy attacks by Israel.
Last week, the White House reported that both sides had reached a preliminary peace agreement, pending approval from Trump, who said he would meet with his team to make a final decision that he has not yet announced.
In the midst of the talks, Iran and the United States exchanged attacks again this morning, with the American bombing of Goruk and the island of Qeshm and the Iranian response against the base from which the attack proceeded. EFE
