Zelensky discusses new ideas with White House emissaries to promote peace in Ukraine
The Ukrainian president held a nearly hour-long conversation with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a conversation this Thursday with White House emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, with whom he discussed some “new ideas” on how to achieve peace in Ukraine, including formats, meetings, and the roadmap for the conversations.
“It was a really good conversation: lots of details; there are good ideas, we talked about them. We have some new ideas about how to get closer to real peace, and this relates to formats, meetings, and, of course, timing,” he said in a speech to the people.
Zelensky stated that the conversation lasted almost an hour and that the head of the Ukrainian negotiating team, Rustem Umerov, is also scheduled to speak with Witkoff and Kushner.
“Of course, we still have to work on some delicate issues. But together with the American side, we know how to ensure that all of this happens. The next few weeks may be intense,” he emphasized, regarding diplomatic contacts.
The Ukrainian president also asked the White House envoys to convey his Christmas greetings to US President Donald Trump and his family.
“Thank you, United States. And thank you to everyone who continues to pressure Russia to ensure that "She fully understands that prolonging the war will have serious consequences for her and for Russia," she concluded. This week, Zelensky presented for the first time in detail the 20-point peace plan jointly developed by Kyiv and Washington, which includes a pact in case of aggression and security guarantees for Kyiv. According to the Ukrainian government, Washington has forwarded the plan to Moscow, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet made an official statement. With information from EFE
