Zurdo Ramirez coach predicts knockout against Dorticos
Julian Chua said that in this fight against Dorticos we will see the best version of Zurdo Ramirez and also his first stoppage in this category
Julian Chua, coach of Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, predicted that his student will knock out Yuniel Dorticos and retain his unified cruiserweight championship this Saturday, June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
In an interview with The Ring magazine, Chua stated that in this fight against Dorticos we will see the best version of Zurdo Ramirez and also his first stoppage in this division.
"We haven't knocked out anyone at cruiserweight yet, and that's what we're trying to do. Zurdo is going to stop him, but we have to follow the proper protocols to get Dorticos out of there. Dorticos is dangerous, but if there's any concession, I want Zurdo to push the button and take him out as soon as he smells blood. Zurdo doesn't feel pressure. He has ice in his veins. We're prepared for the best version of Dorticos. Power is the last thing a fighter loses, and he has it,” he said.
"I understand what he likes to do, and it takes more than just power to face Zurdo. We have plans to take it from him. We want fights that will define his legacy. Zurdo is training very hard. I know how good he is, and he hasn't shown it to the world yet. "We'll see an even better version of Zurdo against Dorticos. As the saying goes, it's harder to stay at the top than to get there,” he added.
Remember that the WBA ordered the fight with Yuniel Dorticos before his fight with Chris Billam-Smith, but the Mexican reached an agreement with his challenger to step aside and be able to unify titles with the Briton.
Zurdo Ramírez made boxing history for his country and became the first unified Mexican cruiserweight champion by defeating Billam-Smith. After his great performance, he challenged Jai Opetaia - International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion - to continue adding titles, as his dream is to become the undisputed champion at 200 pounds. Both were linked in a possible fight, but Dorticos was ultimately chosen.
Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, 32, captured the WBO title after defeating Chris Billam-Smith and made history by becoming the first Mexican to unify at 200 pounds. As a professional, the Sinaloa boxer has a record of 46 wins, 30 of them by knockout, and one loss in his career. Yuniel Dorticos, 38, defeated Alex Campa last June by knockout and will now have a shot at the title. The Cuban has a record of 27 wins (25 by knockout) and two losses.
