Scandal in Argentina: Violent knife fight between Aldosivi fans in match against Keylor Navas former team
Knives injuries and tension during the match at the Jose Maria Minella stadium in Mar del Plata
Saturday afternoon turned chaotic in the city of Mar del Plata, on the coast of Argentina, during the goalless draw between Aldosivi and Newell's Old Boys, the former team of Costa Rican Keylor Navas, corresponding to the third round of the Clausura Tournament.
While the match was taking place on the turf of the Jose Maria Minella stadium, a fierce fight broke out between factions of the Aldosivi fans in the local popular stand, which included punches, runs and even attacks with knives.
Videos recorded by witnesses showed scenes of extreme violence, where several fans can be seen struggling and two people attacking each other with knives. One of those involved appears with his face completely bloodied, while the riot continues without security being able to intervene in time.
The most serious thing is that these incidents occurred in a stand without visiting fans. The entire conflict was between supporters of the same team, which highlights the internal tensions within the Tiburon fans' supporters, who already have a history of previous conflicts.
Reactions, injuries, and emptiness in the stands
Although no official report was issued detailing the number of injured, at least two people were clearly affected by the stabbings, as can be seen in the images shared on social media. The police quickly reinforced their presence in the area of the incident, although the match was not suspended and continued until the end without interruptions.
From the rest of the stadium, chants of repudiation were soon heard. Shouting "Everyone out!", the other fans made clear their condemnation of the violence. After the confrontation, that part of the stands was practically empty, and it is presumed that the fight continued outside the stadium.
