Coach Tunde Ajayi believes that David Benavidez, the World Boxing Council (WBC) 175-pound champion, is overlooking the fight with Anthony Yarde when talking about his future plans.

In an interview with The Ring magazine, Ajayi commented that Benavidez thinks Yarde is just a formality and emphasized that his fighter's experience can make the difference in the fight.

“I think whenever someone talks about another fight in the future, they overlook the one they have coming up. So, yeah, keep ignoring us. He's talking about (Dmitry) Bivol and (Artur) Beterbiev and I'm like, 'Are you laughing, dude?'" "Do you think we're here to waste time? We're here to fight, and David Benavidez is going to be in the fight of his life. I think Anthony just needs to be himself in this fight. We all heard him tell Benavidez he wants a duel," he said. "Let's be clear, this kid has had two fights at light heavyweight: against Gvozdyk, against whom he was out of breath, and then he got knocked down by Morrell, a rookie with 11 fights. (…) But Ant has that experience against those guys and he's still as fresh as a daisy. I know Benavidez's accomplishments, I know he's feared a lot, I've heard stories from sparring partners, and I've heard David say that everyone turned down the fight. But that's not everyone," he added. According to experts, the British boxer is one of the most dangerous challengers David Benavidez will face at 175 pounds due to his power. Despite this, the Mexican-American remains the favorite to take the win.

Let's remember that after Dmitry Bivol decided to vacate his WBC belt, the Mexican-American became absolute champion of the category and expressed that he was interested in fighting with Callum Smith or Anthony Yarde.

In the end, it was Yarde who got the challenger spot and this will be his third opportunity to try to be crowned world champion. The Mexican Monster, on the other hand, will be making his first title defense after dominating David Morrell Jr. in his last appearance in the ring last February.

Anthony Yarde, 33 years old,He's coming off a victory over Lyndor Arthur last April and could now become the WBC light heavyweight champion. The English fighter has 27 wins (24 by knockout) and three losses. David Benavidez, 29, won the WBA regular 175-pound belt from David Morrell after defeating him on the judges' scorecards. The Mexican Monster has a record of 30 wins, 24 of them by knockout, and no losses in his professional career.
