Eddie Hearn acknowledged that Jake Paul deserves a lot of credit for stepping into the ring with Joshua and hopes the jaw injury isn't too serious
Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom Boxing, showed respect for Jake Paul after he was knocked out by Anthony Joshua and admitted he was surprised he wasn't unconscious from the blows he received.
Speaking to the press after the fight, Hearn acknowledged that Paul deserves a lot of credit for stepping into the He fought Joshua and hopes the jaw injury isn't too serious.
“I hope he's okay. I thought he was very brave tonight, I think he did well. I know he ran and clinched a lot, but that was part of it… and he also opened up his hands at times, and obviously that was a good fight plan to keep adding rounds. Even the punch that shattered his jaw would have knocked out most heavy weights. I know he got knocked out, it was that right hand they landed and it was over. You saw what it did to him. So my respect to Jake Paul, but it's a very tough injury to come back from,” he said.
“I don't know how serious the injury is, but if he has a broken jaw it's very complicated to come back from something like that. Still, he's a crazy guy, very crazy, and we take our hats off to him. (I wasn't surprised) by the way he fought. What did surprise me was the number of punches he took at the end and that he didn't end up completely unconscious. That did surprise me. And he “I said: I was going to do really well so I wouldn't get hurt in this fight. Unfortunately, he ended up with a badly damaged jaw, but he still deserves a lot of credit," he added. In the fight with Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul spent most of his time running around the ring to avoid his opponent's powerful punches, so the first few rounds were uneventful. Midway through the fight, the YouTuber-turned-boxer showed signs of fatigue, and that was his downfall. The Briton was able to connect with the American and knocked him down four times (twice in the fifth and twice more in the sixth). It was precisely in that round that Joshua finished Paul with a powerful right hand that fractured his jaw in two places. After the victory, Anthony Joshua declared that he wants to face Tyson Fury next. While Paul asserted that he will continue fighting and again called out Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Jake Paul, 27, suffered his second career defeat, his first by knockout. The American YouTuber has a record of 12 wins (six by knockout) and two losses.
Anthony Joshua, 36, bounced back from his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September by defeating Paul. The Briton boasts a record of 29 wins, 25 by knockout, and four losses.
