This is how the international playoff of the 2026 World Cup will be played
The international playoff matches will be played in March with two spots and six teams competing
FIFA held the draw for the 2026 World Cup playoff this Thursday, pairing one CONMEBOL vs. CONCACAF match and another CONCACAF vs. AFC match.
There will be a total of four matches. Four of the six teams in the playoff are required to win two matches, while Iraq and DR Congo only need to win one. The qualifiers between the six non-European teams will be played in the Mexican stadiums of Guadalajara and Monterrey from March 23 to 31. Here's how the FIFA international playoff drew turned out: Bolivia dreams of returning to the World Cup, Suriname is aiming for its first appearance. Bolivia aspires to participate in its fourth World Cup, after having done so in 1930 in Uruguay, 1950 in Brazil, and 1994 in the United States. 'La Verde' finished seventh in the South American qualifying stage. Suriname, seeking to make history with its first World Cup appearance, qualified second in the Central American group stage behind Panama, which qualified directly. On the other side of the bracket, New Caledonia and Jamaica will play for a place in the final, where Congo awaits. The French overseas territory, located in the South Pacific, has been one of the biggest surprises of the qualifying stage and aspires to its first World Cup appearance. Christian Karembeu, born in New Caledonia, drew the balls for the 2026 draw. The winners of the international playoffs will be placed in the last pot for the 2026 World Cup groups, which will be held this December.
