According to a statement released by the Price Club retail chain, Costco reported that the abortion pill mifepristone will no longer be sold in its pharmacies due to a "lack of demand from our members and other patients."

Following the retailer's announcement, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a conservative religious coalition, hailed the decision as positive. We applaud Costco for doing the right thing by its shareholders and resisting activist calls to sell abortion drugs, said Michael Ross, general counsel for ADF.

According to research by the Guttmacher Institute, mifepristone, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000, is one of the most widely used drugs, along with misoprostol, to terminate pregnancies in the United States.

Retailers like Costco keep their doors open selling lifelong products to families, both large and small. "They have nothing to gain and everything to lose if they become abortion clinics," Ross said.
