Gonzalo Pineda term at the helm of Atlas has come to an end. This Sunday, the Guadalajara club announced the departure of the Mexican coach after a series of negative results that left the team in tenth place in the 2025 Liga MX Apertura Tournament.

Gonzalo Pineda has ceased to be the technical director of the Atlas FC men's first team, after submitting his resignation to the club's board. This decision is being made to allow the institution to define a new direction that will drive its growth and strengthening," the team announced in a statement.

The resignation came just hours after a tough home defeat. Los Rojinegros were defeated 0-3 by Pachuca at the Jalisco Stadium, a score that reflected the lack of defensive solidity that has plagued the team throughout the season.

In the Apertura, Atlas boasts the fourth-best offense, but its defense is the second-worst in the league. This imbalance has been lethal. Before the loss to the Tuzos, the team had already lost 3-1 to Monterrey on July 26 and had put in a disappointing performance in the Leagues Cup, finishing second to last among the participating Mexican clubs, with no wins.

A cycle that did not take off

Although the board thanked Pineda and his coaching staff for "the commitment they've shown" and wished them "success in their future projects," the truth is that the coach's tenure did not meet expectations. The board repeated the usual approach used for these types of outings, but pressure from fans and the need to reverse the trend weighed more heavily. Atlas is already working on selecting its new strategist. The Sports Committee indicated that the goal is to "maximize" the squad and that the appointment will be announced soon through the club's official channels.
