Venezuelan mother detained by ICE reunites with her son to be deported together
Yusmari Galíndez was arrested on April 3 for a traffic violation and only wanted to be deported with her 13-year-old son
Since she was arrested by ICE agents on April 3, Yusmari Galíndez asked for one last favor: to be deported with her son. After three months of anguish and insecurity, this Venezuelan mother managed to reunite with her 13-year-old son and, barring any surprises, they will be able to return to their country together.
"I'm afraid they'll take me out without my son. The solution I want is for them to bring him to me and take me out that same day," the young woman expressed from a detention center located in Houston, Texas.
According to a report by Noticias Telemundo, her son entered the detention center to reunite with his mother. He arrived accompanied by an immigration attorney and a few hours before, he said goodbye to his stepfather, with whom he had been living after his mother's arrest.
"I feel very happy because I'm finally going back to my country," the teenager declared. The report clarified that, for privacy reasons, ICE did not provide further information about the reunion and deportation process.
Mother and son entered the United States thanks to the CBP One application, which was repealed by President Donald Trump after taking office for his second term in the White House. The humanitarian parole they received was also blocked.
Yusmari Galíndez was arrested after committing a traffic violation
While her son was at school, Yusmari committed a traffic violation that meant she was terminated from her stay in the country. She was immediately arrested and taken to a detention center in Texas. She even had to ask a neighbor to look for her son.
After being detained, Yusmari says she was made to sign documents without any explanation, claiming they were deportation papers.
“They made me sign my deportation order without telling me or translating anything. They told me 'sign here,' with profanity,” the Venezuelan woman said. Her partner is also reportedly at risk of deportation.
