Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel has been discharged from a hospital in New Delhi after treatment for a chest-related ailment and will return to Kathmandu on Sunday night. Poudel (78) was airlifted to India on April 19 for treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after he complained of breathing problems.
"After being discharged from the hospital after successful treatment, President Paudel is returning to Kathmandu on a regular Nepal Airlines flight on Sunday," the President's Office said in a statement here. He has undergone various health check-ups and treatment at AIIMS, the statement said. The doctors involved in Poudel's treatment have advised him to rest for a few more weeks. In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the President's Office, Sagar Acharya, it has been said that there has been a lot of improvement in his health.
The statement said that President Paudel thanked the Nepali and Indian health workers involved in his treatment, government officials, security personnel, all brothers and sisters inside and outside the country who expressed concern about his health.
Paudel's family sources confirmed that the President would return to Kathmandu on Sunday night at 8:30 pm via a regular Nepal Airlines flight. He was admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu on 18 April after complaining of health problems and was referred to AIIMS, New Delhi for further treatment after developing a lung infection. Paudel of the Nepali Congress was elected as the President of Nepal last month, bringing relief to the fragile coalition government.
