Singer and social media personality Nezza performed the national anthem in Spanish Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, despite having been previously told she was expected to sing it in English, amid tensions over immigration raids in Los Angeles.
In a In a video Nezza posted on social media, an official can be heard saying, “We’re going to sing it in English today. I don’t know if they broadcast it.” However, the singer chose to perform it in Spanish, a version originally commissioned in 1945.
“I felt like I had to do it. For my people. They definitely won’t let me back into that stadium,” Nezza said in her video posted on her TikTok account.
