Immigrants asked not to run during raids: they put their lives at risk
It is not worth exposing yourself to avoid arrest and deportation
The death of an immigrant who was run over while running to escape an immigration raid led organizations that advocate for their rights to call on people not to run when federal immigration agents appear, as they put their lives at risk.
The Community and legal services organizations continue to recommend that people avoid fleeing or running away during immigration operations, said Emilio Amaya, executive director of the San Bernardino Community Service Center. This is to avoid giving immigration officers legal reasons that could lead to a person being deported and to avoid mistreatment by the officers themselves. He said it is important to remember that for a person to be arrested by immigration officers, officers must have probable cause, and running away gives officers that legal reason. A He also stressed that if a person decides to run away, it is necessary to identify safe escape routes to avoid any type of mishap or fatal accident.
Losing your life trying to avoid deportation is not worth it. We continue to remind our community of the need to know and assert their legal and constitutional rights. .
