President Joe Biden has selected Admiral Lisa Franchetti to lead the US Navy. If the US Senate approves her appointment, she would be the first woman to head any military service in the US.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recommended Admiral Samuel Peparo, commander of the Navy's Pacific Fleet, to the post, but he has been named head of the US Indo-Pacific Command. By the way, the information of both these appointments has not been made public yet.

Franchetti is currently the Vice Chief of the Navy. She had joined the Navy in 1985. According to his official biography, he has served in the US Navy as Commander Korea, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for War, and Director of Strategy, Plans and Policy. She has also commanded two Carrier Strike Groups and became the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff in September 2022.

President Biden announced Friday that as our next Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Lisa Franchetti will bring 38 years of dedicated service to our nation as a commissioned officer, including her current role as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations. Biden said that throughout his career, Admiral Franchetti has demonstrated extensive expertise in both operational and policy areas. She is the second woman to achieve the rank of four-star admiral in the US Navy and, when confirmed, will make history again as the first woman to serve as Chief of Naval Operations and Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Biden also announced on Friday that he was nominating Vice Admiral James Kilby, deputy commander of the US Fleet Forces Command, as the next Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and Admiral Samuel Peparo, commander of the US Navy's Pacific Fleet, as commander of the Indo-Pacific Command to lead US forces in the Pacific. Biden also nominated Vice Admiral Stephen Webb Koehler to replace Paparoa as commander of the US Pacific Fleet.

According to media reports, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin praised the nomination, saying that each admiral will ensure that our US Navy and combined forces in the Indo-Pacific remain the best military power ever created and will be at the center of our work to project power around the world, protect freedom of the seas and uphold the rules-based international order.
