A natural gas leak caused the closure of a Los Angeles County freeway for several hours, leaving dozens of motorists trapped in their vehicles.
The incident was initially reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. this Saturday in the area of Castaic, where a natural gas leak occurred on a main line just east of the southbound lanes of Freeway 5, near the intersection of Ridge Route Road and Pine Crest Place. According to firefighters, the gas leak originated from a 34-inch transmission pipeline, a major natural gas pipeline located near Freeway 5.
