James Talarico, candidate for Senate in Texas, manages to raise $27 million in three months
The campaign of James Talarico, Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, is gaining strength after raising $10 million in just over a month
The conciliatory proposal of James Talarico, candidate for Senate in Texas and who aspires to become a Presbyterian pastor, seems to have resonated with Democratic citizens, raising $27 million in three months.
The seminarian of James Talarico, 36, who surprisingly defeated Jasmine Crockett in her party's primary on March 3, announced that she has raised $10 million in campaign donations since that day. The immediate goal for Senate Democrats is to secure the support of Texas voters, a traditionally Republican state, not only in terms of resources but also at the polls. They need four seats to break the conservatives' hold and become a counterweight to the policies promoted by President Donald Trump. Therefore, the Democratic representative for District 50 will face the winner of the Republican primary runoff on May 26, which includes current Senator John Cornyn and Ken Paxton, the state's attorney general. The amount of money raised by James Talarico is already being compared to that of another Democrat, Beto O'Rourke.
In 2018, representing the 16th congressional district of Texas, the son of County Judge Pat O'Rourke managed to connect with a broad sector of Democrats and, as a result, raised $80 million.
However, when competing against Republican Ted Cruz, he ended up being defeated by less than three points.
The point is that while Beto O'Rourke raised $6.8 million during the first quarter of the year in which he ran for a Senate seat, James Talarico has already surpassed him by $3.2 million, which is quite remarkable.
What's controversial about the matter is that, in three decades, no Democrat has managed to win an election in the Lone Star State.
“We are building a campaign of working people, “Uniting people beyond partisan lines and racial and religious divisions,” the seminarian often mentions at events where he promotes his campaign.
