A United Airlines plane completely lost its front wheel during a hard landing at Orlando International Airport
A United Airlines plane experienced tense moments on Sunday when it lost its front wheel during a rough landing at Orlando International Airport, Florida, according to aviation authorities.
Flight 2323, an Airbus A321neo from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, experienced a mechanical problem upon landing around 12:35 pm, the airline reported in a statement cited by Fox 35.
The aircraft was carrying 200 passengers and six crew members. According to United, no injuries were reported.
Video captures the moment of impact
Images circulating on social media show the moment the plane was descending seemingly normally until, upon touching the runway first with its rear wheels, the front section violently impacted the ground.
The impact caused the plane to bounce and sway, while one of the wheels detached and rolled to the side of the runway. The video captures screams and expressions of surprise from those witnessing the landing.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft was rendered unusable after the forced landing and that the passengers had to be transported by bus to the terminal.
Ongoing Investigation and Weather Conditions
The FAA reported that it has opened an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. United Airlines has not yet specified the exact cause of the mechanical failure.
On social media, some users speculated that bad weather may have been a factor, although this has not been officially confirmed. The National Weather Service reported winds of up to 56 miles per hour in Orlando that day.
The National Airspace System database indicated that there were delays in arriving and departing flights at the airport on the day of the incident.
