Washington DC authorities declared a “limited curfew” effective immediately for minors under 18 after several weeks of “disorderly behavior,” Mayor Muriel Bowser announced.
“We are declaring a limited youth curfew in Washington, DC,” the mayor stated on her social media.
The US official specified that the measure applies to Effective immediately, all minors under the age of 18 are subject to a curfew from 11:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, until 6:00 AM on Sunday, November 2, and this will continue until Wednesday, November 5. “Effective immediately, all minors under the age of 18 are subject to a curfew from 11 PM to 6 AM, which will extend until 5/11. This is in response to several weeks of disorderly youth behavior that endangered both themselves and others,” she stated. This curfew declaration comes after several fights broke out among young people at the Navy Yard on Halloween night. The measure will allow the Metropolitan Police to designate certain parts of Washington, DC, as “high risk for disorderly conduct,” which could include the Navy Yard; the Banneker Recreation Center near Howard University; the U Street corridor area and the Union Station area, among others.
