Defender OCTA Black: the darkest side of off-road luxury
Land Rover takes its most extreme off-roader to a new level with an all-black design, exclusive details and rock attitude
The automotive industry never stops innovating, but few brands manage to do so with the same degree of forcefulness as Land Rover. The new Defender OCTA Black is proof of this: an edition that isn't afraid to go completely dark to show that luxury and ruggedness can not only coexist, but also enhance each other.
This new version, based on the powerful Defender OCTA, doesn't seek to go unnoticed. On the contrary, it bursts onto the scene with a fiercer and more sophisticated image, built from more than 30 exterior elements treated in black. Its visual proposal speaks of confidence, exclusivity and, above all, purpose.
Black aesthetics, wild soul
The color chosen for this version is Narvik Black, described as the deepest black within the Defender range. A gloss finish is standard, although discerning carers can opt for a matte protective film that takes the concept to a new level of personalization.
In terms of details, there’s painstaking attention to visual consistency: satin black powder-coated sill plates and scuff plates, exposed black tow eyes, and a gloss front deck lid.
The quad exhaust outlets also add to the dark aesthetic, while the Land Rover oval in the grille is black with dark silver lettering.
Even the underbody, such as the silencer cover and center console, adopt Gloss or Satin Black finishes. A detail that confirms that in this model there is no untreated surface.
Wheels, brakes and details that complete the work
To round off this aesthetic transformation, the Defender OCTA Black offers 20-inch forged wheels or, for greater visual impact, 22-inch wheels in a Gloss Black finish.
These are accompanied by black hubcaps with the Shadow Atlas Defender inscription. The brake calipers are not far behind: They feature the same deep black with Sentient Silver script.
The goal is clear: to create a vehicle that not only dominates any terrain, but does so with a commanding aesthetic presence.
High-level interior: premium technology and materials
Behind the doors, the Defender OCTA Black presents an evolution of so-called “rugged luxury”. For the first time in a Defender, Ebony semi-aniline leather is introduced, combined with Kvadrat™, a technical fabric known for its soft feel and durability. This material dresses the Performance seats, which also include unique perforation patterns and new decorative stitching.
The armrests and backrests are finished in Carpathian Grey, a colour choice that adds contrast without breaking the visual harmony. On the dashboard, the crossbeam is powder coated in satin black.
As an option, a trimmed carbon fiber interior trim is available, another nod to the model's signature blend of luxury and ruggedness.
The most radical Defender of all
The engine is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 626 horsepower, paired with 6D Dynamics active suspension designed for maximum performance off-road. The OCTA version includes a specific driving mode that enhances its off-road capabilities.
It also features a distinct sensory experience with the Body and Soul (BASS) seats, which allow you to not only hear the music, but also feel it. This technology was developed in conjunction with SUBPAC™ and leverages the Meridian™ surround sound system with 700W of power and 15 speakers.
“This high-fidelity immersive vibroacoustic technology incorporates the same AI optimization software used by the world’s greatest artists and composers,” the brand says.
A rockstar SUV
The launch of the Defender OCTA Black coincides with a symbolic move: Land Rover is the official automotive partner of Oasis Live '25, the legendary British band’s world tour.
With 41 dates scheduled, this model will be in charge of transporting the musicians during their tour of different cities around the world.
Mark Cameron, CEO of Defender, was clear when explaining the philosophy behind this special edition: “The presence and purpose of the Defender OCTA are undeniable: it is the tallest and widest Defender, allowing it to tackle even more extreme terrain. The introduction of the Defender OCTA Black elevates the class.”
“We know our customers love all-black finishes on their Defenders, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface, inside and out, to create the ultimate, durable, luxurious Defender OCTA,” the executive added.
The Defender OCTA Black is not just another version in the range of the legendary British off-roader, it is the reinterpretation of a legend under the brand's most radical aesthetic, uniting strength, refinement, and an indisputable character.
Available alongside new color combinations for the standard Defender OCTA—Sargasso Blue, Borasco Grey, Charente Grey, and Petra Copper—this dark version arrives to establish itself as the symbol of a new luxury: bolder, more technical, and definitely more rock ‘n’ roll.
