China reaches a new record in automotive production
The Chinese automotive industry has just marked a turning point: for the first time, a local manufacturer has surpassed 30 million vehicles produced
The figure is as resounding as it is symbolic. Thirty million vehicles produced represent not only volume, but decades of learning, investment, and industrial transformation.
This number, reached for the first time by a Chinese manufacturer, marks a turning point for a sector that went from being local and dependent on foreign partners to becoming a global player.
The company responsible for this milestone is Changan Automobile, a group headquartered in Chongqing and parent company of brands such as Changan, Deepal, and Avatr. The 30 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line on December 9, 2025, exactly 42 years after the company entered the automotive industry. With this, Changan became the first Chinese manufacturer considered “independent” to reach this historic scale.
Growth that accelerated in record time
Although the journey to the first million was long and gradual, Changan's current pace shows a dramatic change. To go from 20 million to 30 million units produced, the company needed just four years, a speed unthinkable in its first decades of existence.
This leap is not accidental. It responds to a combination of greater production capacity, an expanded portfolio, a strong commitment to electrification, and an increasingly visible international presence. In industrial terms, Changan didn't just grow: it shifted gears.
State reorganization and ambitious goals
This historic moment comes shortly after a key reorganization. On July 29, 2025, China Changan Automobile Group Co., Ltd. was formally established as a state-owned enterprise under the direct administration of the Chinese central government, a status similar to that already held by other giants such as FAW and Dongfeng. During that announcement, the group's chairman, Zhu Huarong, clearly outlined the roadmap: to reach 5 million vehicles annually by 2030, with 60% electrified and 30% of sales outside China. The 30 million milestone thus appears as a foothold for an even more ambitious strategy.
Current figures demonstrate the group's strength
Recent numbers help to put into perspective the moment Changan is experiencing. In November 2025, the group reported sales of 283,000 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 2.3%. Within that total, 125,000 units were electrified or New Energy vehicles, a 23% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. International sales reached 55,000 units, a 47% jump, although in this category Changan still ranks 11th among Chinese manufacturers, demonstrating that there is still ground to be gained outside its domestic market. The performance of its key brands: The group's growth is supported by an increasingly diversified portfolio. In the same monthly report, the Nevo line, focused on entry-level electrified vehicles, delivered 46,909 units. Deepal, one of the group's strategic brands, registered 33,060 vehicles, while Avatr, positioned in the premium segment, reached 14,057 units. Deepal deserves special attention, as since its launch in 2023 it has already accumulated 700,000 deliveries, rapidly approaching its first million units, a milestone that would consolidate its role as one of the group's pillars. Global Expansion and Electric Offensive Changan's vision goes beyond current numbers. During the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, the company announced its intention to launch more than 50 electrified models by 2030, an offensive that aims to cover everything from affordable segments to high-end offerings. Europe occupies a central place in this strategy. Today, the group already sells vehicles in several countries on the continent and is working on expanding its distribution network, with significant investments planned for the coming years. In parallel, the launch of Avatr as a premium brand in new markets is being prepared, starting in 2026, reinforcing the conglomerate's global image. 000 units corresponded to electrified or New Energy vehicles, with a growth of 23% compared to the same month of the previous year. among Chinese manufacturers, which shows that there is still ground to be gained outside its domestic market.
