Sabrina Carpenter sweeps away with ‘Manchild’ and debuts at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100
The singer was harshly criticized for the cover of her new album, Man’s Best Friend
Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter is celebrating a new career milestone: her latest single, “Manchild,” debuted straight to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her second track to top the chart.
She previously achieved this with “Please Please Please,” from her critically acclaimed, Grammy-winning album “Short n' Sweet,” which topped the charts for one week last year.
Released on June 5, “Manchild” had a remarkable impact in its first week: 27 million official streams, 14 million radio impressions, and 20,000 copies sold in the US
The single was available on a 7-inch vinyl, of which 14,000 copies were sold, including the exclusive instrumental track “Inside of Your Head When You've Just Won an Argument with a Man.”
Upcoming Album: 'Man's Best Friend'
'Manchild' is the first taste of his upcoming album, “Man's Best Friend,” set for release on August 29. Carpenter shared the creative process behind the song on Instagram:
“I wrote 'Manchild' on a random Tuesday with Amy and Jack, shortly after finishing 'Short n' Sweet,' and it ended up being the best Tuesday of my life,” referencing Jack Antonoff (the track's co-producer) and Amy Allen. The artist described the song as “the embodiment of a loving, disapproving look” and compared it to “a never-ending road trip in the middle of summer,” inviting her fans to enjoy it throughout the season.
Other Tracks on the Chart
While “Manchild” dominates the Hot 100, the top 10 didn't record any new entries. Alex Warren's “Ordinary” fell to No. 2, and Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae's “What I Want” dropped to No. 3. On the album chart, Wallen's “I'm the Problem” maintained its reign for a fourth consecutive week with 209,000 equivalent units. Additionally, five albums debuted in the top 10: Lil Wayne – “Tha Carter VI” (No. 2), Enhypen – “Desire: Unleash” (No. 3), Addison Rae – “Addison” (No. 4), her first studio album).
While My Chemical Romance – “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” (#6, thanks to a deluxe reissue) and Turnstile – “Never Enough” (#9, her first top 10).
With 'Manchild', Sabrina Carpenter not only consolidates her success, but also marks the beginning of a new musical era that promises to continue giving people something to talk about.
