Singer Alicia Villarreal, who denounced Cruz Martinez for domestic violence, spoke out at a press conference after a judge ordered her ex-partner to stand trial, which represents a major step in her fight for justice.

I have a story I wish hadn't turned out this way," said the mother of Melenie Carmona, who expressed her regret for everything she allowed at the hands of her now ex-partner and the father of two of her children. She then lamented the situation of violence that many women experience at the hands of their partners, and hopes that her case, and the way she spoke out, will serve as an inspiration to those women who are going through something similar. Alicia Villarreal's press conference came after Cruz Martinez celebrated that authorities had dismissed two of the three accusations against him from his ex-partner.
“I want to state, with the utmost respect and with complete firmness, that thanks to the Nuevo Leon authorities—whose duty is to protect what is right, without distinction of gender or favoritism—two of the three accusations and charges against me have been completely dismissed and rejected in their entirety, and the legal process to refute the last remaining one, which is the alleged domestic violence, is just beginning,” he said regarding the charges of robbery and femicide, which have already been dismissed.
In the same statement, he addressed the formal charges against him, clarifying that it did not mean he had been found guilty, but rather that this measure was taken while the process continues.
“My criminal defense is just beginning, and I am confident that in the end this will all be completely cleared up and the last of these charges will also be dismissed by the competent authorities.
