Maddox, son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, drops the actor's surname
The former couple's eldest son also decided to drop his father's surname and adopt the name
Angelina Jolie's new big-screen project, the film "Culture," generated widespread discussion on social media after it came to light that her son Maddox, from her marriage to Brad Pitt, made a drastic change that revealed the current status of his relationship with his father.
The press and the public who attended the premiere of the highly anticipated film in Paris pointed out that the couple's eldest son, who was part of the production team, appeared in the credits as "Maddox Jolie," omitting the surname "Pitt."
This fact was reported by French media, and hours later, the People website confirmed that in the production notes distributed to journalists during the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, Maddox's name also appeared only with the actress's surname.
The young artist's decision surprised those who have closely followed his film career. Until 2024, Maddox had no problem using his father's name, as he appeared in the project "Maria" under the name "Maddox Jolie-Pitt."
In this way, the production assistant joins three of his five siblings who have been chosen to officially sever ties with their father. Let's remember that in 2023, Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Mu Pi sorority as Zahara Marley Jolie. Meanwhile, young Vivienne debuted as a producer of the Broadway play "The Outsiders," alongside Angelina Jolie, choosing to have her credits attributed to her under the name Vivienne Jolie. The last member of the family to legally change her name was Shiloh Jolie, when she turned 18 in 2024. However, the rest of the children of the former celebrity couple, namely Pax, 22, and Ken, 17, have remained on the sidelines of the controversy and have chosen to keep their father Brad Pitt's last name. Brad Pitt has not commented on the controversy generated by the news.
